Tharawat Magazine had the honor of being a media partner for Art Dubai 2017, the leading international art fair in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
Held from March 15-18, the fair hosted a number of galleries and artists from around the world, giving attendees a one-stop tour of the global contemporary art scene. The eleventh edition of Art Dubai was the largest and most international to date, with new galleries and countries participating for the first time, alongside ambitious new elements to the programming.
Art Dubai 2017 was hosted at the beautiful Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, featuring 94 galleries from 43 countries, with 27 galleries attending for the first time.
This year, Art Dubai Contemporary featured 79 galleries spread across its two gallery halls, including a selection of more than 30 galleries focusing on solo or two-artist exhibitions.
Art Dubai Modern, now in its fourth edition, continues to be the only platform dedicated to showcasing museum-quality works by Modern masters from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. This piece, called “Water in Dripping” by Zheng Lu is an example of contemporary East Asian art.
This exhibit, called Altitude by Elif Uras was one of the more visited attractions in Art Dubai Contemporary, featuring glazed stoneplates covered in gold.
This was easily one of the most popular exhibits in Art Dubai, by artist Yuken Teruya. The series is actually McDonald’s paper bags into which Teruya cuts intricate tree shapes that are then pushed through into the interior of the bag.
With thousands of visitors enjoying the intimate yet large-scale exhibit, this year’s edition of Art Dubai was a great success and we can’t wait to see what next year brings!
