Estimated to be worth more than $9 billion, the Rocca family controls the global steel and construction conglomerate Techint Group. The company’s founder, Agostino Rocca, gained notoriety in the Italian steel industry before founding the Techint Group in Argentina in 1945. Agostino’s eldest son and engineer Roberto Rocca took over management of the company in 1975, three years before Agostino’s passing.
Roberto transferred Techint’s presidency to his son Agostino in 1993, later becoming president of two other steel manufacturers that the company had acquired. Agostino’s brother, Paolo, was an assistant to the Executive Director of the World Bank before joining the Techint Group in 1985. Paolo became the company’s CEO in 2002 after the tragic 2001 plane crash that killed Agostino. Paolo remains the Techint Group’s CEO and Chairman of the company’s holdings, Tenaris and Ternium. Paolo’s brother, Gianfelice, heads Techint’s healthcare company Humanitas.
