RaceTrac is an American company that operates a chain of gasoline service stations and convenience stores across the Southern United States. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, RaceTrac stands as Georgia’s third-largest private company. In total, RaceTrac operates more than 650 gasoline retail outlets in 12 different states, employing just shy of 8,500 people. In 2018, the company generated $11.2 billion. The company’s roots trace back to the mid-1930s when Carl Bolch Sr. bought his first gas station in St. Louis, Missouri, which operated under the name Carl Bolch Trackside Stations. He expanded operations in 1959 when he acquired the Oil Well Company, which owned independent outlets across rural Alabama. In 1967, Carl Bolch Jr. took over the company and made his mark by pioneering the concept of self-service gasoline pumps throughout the southern United States. He relocated the company to Atlanta in 1976 and, three years later, changed the name to RaceTrac. RaceTrac has been consistently included on the Forbes list of the largest private companies, placing 31st in 2019. Today, the company is helmed by Carl Bolch Sr.’s granddaughter, Allison Moran Bolch.
