Global leader in the design and manufacture of trucks and truck parts, the company also engages in financial services and leasing products. Founded by William Pigott Sr. in 1905, PACCAR is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.
PACCAR was originally established as the Seattle Car Mfg. Co. and engaged in the production of railway and logging equipment. After a merger with Twohy Brothers of Portland, the business became Pacific Car and Foundry Company. In 1924, Pigott sold control of the Company to American Car and Foundry Company.
The founder’s son, Paul Pigott, acquired a major interest in the Company in 1934. Under his leadership, the business expanded into the power winch segment and, later, the truck market, with the acquisition of Kenworth Motor Truck in 1945. The Peterbilt Motors Company was acquired in 1958. PACCAR expanded internationally in 1960 and opened a financial division the same year. The company’s name was officially changed to PACCAR Inc in 1972.
After the acquisition of DAF Trucks and Leyland Trucks during the late 90s, PACCAR established itself as one of the world’s largest truck manufacturers.
