Metinvest is an international vertically-integrated mining and metals company with assets in Ukraine, Europe and the US. One of Ukraine’s largest private companies, Metinvest is a subsidiary of System Capital Management (SCM) and was established by Rinat Akhmetov in 2006. It is headquartered in Mariupol, Ukraine.
Metinvest was initially established to manage the coal, mining, coke, steelmaking and pipe production businesses of its parent company, SCM. In 2008, the company acquired an 82.5 per cent stake in one of Ukraine’s largest mining companies, Ingulets GOK. The same year, Metinvest extended its global portfolio with the acquisition of Italy’s Trametal and UK’s Spartan UK.
In 2009, Metinvest acquired one of the leading producers of coking coal in the US, United Coal, and secured stakes in other global meteorology operations. Today, Metinvest generates almost $7 billion annually.
