The Koc family is Turkey’s wealthiest family thanks to their ownership of Koc Holding, the only Turkish company to ever crack the Fortune Global 500 List. What family Patriarch Vehbi Koç started in 1926 has grown into an empire, giving the Koc Family a net worth of approximately $10 billion. Vehbi Koç was an entrepreneur who grew his business by acquiring representative rights in Turkey of major companies such as Ford and Standard Oil. He later expanded it to a wide range of industries including auto manufacturing, retail, tourism and finance. After building his global empire, Vehbi Koç handed over the reins of Koc Holding to his son, Rahmi Mustafa Koç, in 1984. Rahmi married Çiğdem Meseretçioğlu and, together, the couple had three sons. In 2003, Rahmi’s son Mustafa Vehbi Koç was appointed president of Koç Holding. After passing away suddenly at the age of 55, his younger brother Mehmet Ömer Koç assumed the company’s presidency in February 2016. He was educated in Georgetown and Columbia Universities in the United States and spent time as head of the family’s energy division.
