The D’Ieteren family from Belgium owns the automobile distribution company, D’Ieteren SA, and the vehicle glass replacement company, Belron SA. Jean-Joseph D’Ieteren founded the family business in 1805 as a wheel manufacturer for carriages.
D’Ieteren distributes car brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti and Yamaha through its Belgian dealerships. Belron SA offers vehicle glass repair and replacement through a network of franchised operations in Europe, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand.
After Jean-Joseph’s passing, his sons, Alfred and Emile D’Ieteren, took over the business and began producing wheels for motorised vehicles in 1897. Alfred’s sons, Lucien and Albert, took over the business in the early 20th century and focussed specifically on automobile manufacturing.
Lucien’s son, Pierre D’Ieteren, brokered import deals with Volkswagen and Porsche for the Belgian market in the 1940s and 1950s. Pierre’s son, Roland D’Ieteren, joined the company in 1972 as assistant director and took over as its head after the death of his father in 1975.
Roland and his sister, Catheline D’Ieteren, have an estimated net worth of over $2 billion. Today, Roland’s son, Nicolas D’Ieteren, and his cousin, Olivier Périer, control the family-owned business.
