Adani is one of India’s richest families and one of the country’s biggest operators of ports, including the nation’s largest. Through their Adani Group, the family actively engages in power generation, infrastructure, real estate and commodities.
Andani Group founder Gautam Adani was born into a textile business in the 60s. At 18, he established himself as a diamond broker in Mumbai. He would join his brother in the PVC trade during the 1980s and create the Adani Group in 1988, with a business focus on agricultural commodities and power. Gautam Adani turned his company into a multi-national conglomerate with a broad portfolio in the following years. Gautam Adani’s wife, Priti, heads the family’s philanthropic organisation, the Adani Foundation. Gautam’s brother, Vinod Adani, overseas several of the family’s companies in addition to his investment and textile businesses.
Gautam’s eldest son, Karan Andani, was appointed CEO of the family’s ports business in 2016. Gautam’s younger brother Rajesh Adani is the Adani Group’s managing director. Gautam’s nephew, Pranav Adani, is Director of Adani Enterprises Ltd. and heads the family’s Coal Mining business. Sagar Adani leads the group’s Green Energy business. The family’s net worth is estimated at $11.9 billion.
