Jack Taylor founded the St. Louis-based car rental company Enterprise Rent A Car in 1957, naming it after the aircraft carrier he served on during the Second World War. At the time of his death in 2016, the 94-year-old was estimated to be worth $5.3 billion.
Jack’s son, Andrew, was CEO of Enterprise from 1991 to 2013, when he became executive chairman of Enterprise Holdings. Under his tenure, the company grew to a fleet of more than 900,000 vehicles internationally and acquired both National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car through its purchase of Vanguard Automotive Group.
Jack Taylor’s daughter, Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, is Chairperson of the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, which provides financial assistance to charities through Enterprise’s operations, employees and customers. Since the foundation was established in 1982, it has contributed more than $354 million in donations.
The Taylor family retains ownership of Enterprise Holdings, with annual revenues of $24.1 billion and 100,000 employees. In 2018, Jack Taylor’s granddaughters, Christine Taylor and Carolyn Kindle Betz, assumed the roles of Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Holding Inc. and President of the Enterprise Holdings Foundation respectively. The appointments mark the family’s third generation to join the company’s management.
