Kuehne + Nagel was founded in Germany by August Kuehne and Friedrich Nagel, in 1890. Today, Kuehne + Nagel International AG is based in Schindellegi, Switzerland, with yearly revenue of $18.9 billion.
August Kuehne’s son, Alfred Kühne, took over ownership of Kuehne + Nagel after his father’s death in 1932. Alfred passed away in 1981. Alfred’s son, Klaus-Michael Kuehne, became CEO of the company in 1966, after joining his family’s business in 1958. He vacated the post in 1975 and went on to join the directorial board, eventually becoming Chairman. Today, Klaus-Michael Kuehne is Honorary Chairman of Kuehne + Nagel International AG and majority stakeholder of the company. His net worth is estimated at $13.2 billion. He is also a minority owner of German soccer club, Hamburger SV.
