JSW Steel Limited’s story started in 1982 with its first steel plant in Vasind, India. The plant was backed by Jindal Iron and Steel company. JSW Steel is a holding company, which engages in the production, distribution and trade of iron and steel products. The company had several acquisitions and expanded significantly over two decades. One of the most notable mergers was in 2005 when JISCO merged with JVSL. The company’s plants are now spread across six regions in India, as well as the United States, South America and Africa.
The company is now India’s largest steel exporter. They ship to over 100 countries across five continents. Their standing in India has allowed the company to stay at the head of science and technology in their industry. The company’s total yearly production capacity is 18 million tonnes per annum. The company has set its sights on increasing its capacity to over 10 million tonnes overseas. Their fortunes overseas are currently hindered by a slowing international steel market. However, their investments at home continue to grow as they complete expansions to their existing plants.
