Helm AG is a Global chemical marketing firm based in Hamburg, Germany. Karl O. Helm established the company as an import-export business in 1900. In 1950, Hermann Schnabel took over the company and redirected its primary focus to chemicals.
Helm began its international expansion in 1962 with HELM Skandinavien A/S, located in Copenhagen. In 1966, the company began operations in North America with the establishment of HELM de México, in Mexico City, and Asia in 1967 with HELM Japan Ltd. Helm AG was set up in 1978 as a family-owned stock corporation. In 1984, Hermann Schnabel handed control of the firm to his son Dieter Schnabel. Under Dieter’s leadership, Helm expanded internationally into China and India. He also grew the business through methanol, fertiliser and agricultural chemical partnerships. By 2006, the company’s revenues exceeded $5.5 billion. In 2018, Helm opened North America’s largest methanol plant in Texas.
Today, HELM engages through more than 100 subsidiaries, sales offices and participations in over 30 countries, with annual revenue of over $4.5 billion.
