Heineken is one of the largest and most iconic beer brands around the world, second only in size to the recently merged Anheuser-Busch/SAB Miller group. Headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the company can trace its roots back to 1854 when a 22-year-old bought a brewery and set out on his own path. Over 165 years later, Heineken now owns more than 165 breweries in approximately 70 countries, producing 250 different brands of beer. Heineken earned just over €22.47 billion in revenue in 2018 and employs more than 73,000 people worldwide. The company structures its operation into four global regions. The revenue breakdown by region is (in billions) Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe €3.05, Americas €6.78, Asia-Pacific €2.92 and Europe €10.35. Globally, the Heineken brand grew 7.7 per cent in 2018, registering a high-water mark in performance in more than 10 years. Part of the growth can be attributed to the sales of the recently launched non-alcoholic line of Heineken 0.0, which is now available in 38 countries. In 2017, Heineken bought the Kirin line of Brazilain breweries for $700 million. The following year, Heineken broke new ground in terms of gender equity when they made Maggie Timoney the first female CEO of a major U.S. beer supplier.
