Grupo Bimbo is a Mexican bakery listed as the world’s largest operating bakery in 32 countries including the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Chile, Peru and Spain. Founded in 1945 in Mexico City by Lorenzo Servitje and four other business partners, Lorenzo’s son Daniel has served as CEO and Chairman since 1997, growing its annual sales worldwide to US$10.7 billion by 2011. The company’s first products were loaves of white and rye bread, before continual expansion and acquisitions of several brands including George Weston Foods in the USA in 2009, has seen them become the owner of more than 13,000 individual baked products and custodian of some of the world’s most famous brands. These include Sara Lee, Wonder Bread and Harvest Gold. In 2018, they acquired the Mankattan Group, a leading player in the baking industry in China that currently has more than 129,000 employees worldwide. In the same year, the company reported net worldwide sales of US$14.7 billion, up from US$13.7 billion in 2017. In 2015, it was named among the world’s top 100 most innovative companies, and it is regularly listed on the world’s best employers list. Starting with just one point of sale in Mexico City, the distribution network is now more than 3.3 million individual outlets.
