Globus Holding Gmbh & Co. KG is a Germany-based holding company that operates hypermarkets and other retail segments in Germany, Luxembourg, Russia and the Czech Republic. Franz Bruch founded the company in 1828 as a trading house. Headquartered in Saarland, the Group manages 178 companies, totalling $7.7 billion in annual sales.
In 1928, 100 years after its founding, Globus introduced its own brands to the marketplace. The family’s fourth generation transformed its wholesale operation into a self-service retail model in the 1950s, developing the company’s large-scale grocery store concept in 1966.
Globus expanded its operations into Europe and Russia in the 1980s while also diversifying its business interests.
The company opened its first hardware store in 1986, which would eventually lead to Globus’s DIY chain of stores. The company’s first hypermarket was launched in 1996, leading to more international expansion.
Today, Globus Holding Gmbh & Co. KG 47 hypermarkets, 91 DIY stores and six electronics stores in Germany. The Group also owns 29 stores in the Czech Republic and Russia.
