The Angelini family is one of Chile’s wealthiest and most prominent due in large part to their ownership stake in AntarChile S.A, one of South America’s largest conglomerates. It operates in more 80 countries, primarily in natural resource development such as forestry, energy, fishing, and fuel distribution. The family business patriarch is Italian-born businessman Anacleto Angelini Fabbri who came to Chile in 1948. With only $100, he took over a failing paint company and turned it into a profitable operation. In the 1950’s he bought a failing fishing business and transformed it into one of Chile’s largest and most successful operations. He quickly gained a reputation for turning failing businesses into profitable ones. In 1986, he bought the controlling interest in Empresas Copec, one of the regions more influential companies. At the time of his death in 2007, with no direct heir to take over, Anacleto Angelini Fabbri left control of his empire to his nephew, Roberto Angelini Rossi. Roberto was educated at the Catholic University of Chile and worked as a civil engineer before heading the family business. His sister Patricia Angelini Rossi also has an ownership stake in the family group. At the time of Anacleto Angelini Fabbri’s death, he was estimated to have a net worth of approximately $6 billion.
