Andrade Gutierrez is a multinational engineering and construction company headquartered in Brazil. Founded in 1948 by the Andrade brothers and their friend Flavio Gutierrez, all of whom were engineers, the company now operates all over Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, employing more than 220,000 people. In 2018, total revenue across the group was $314 million, operating across three separate divisions: AG Construction, AG Concessions and AG Telecom. Helped along by the modernisation of Brazil and the region from the 1950s onwards, by the 1980s, they began to expand, building their first international infrastructure projects in the latter part of that decade. In 1987, they purchased Zagope, a Portuguese company. Through this, they built roads, bridges and viaducts in Portugal and Mauritius, as well as the Lisbon subway, which began in 1992. With around 8,000 employees of its own, Zagope is responsible for AG’s operations across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
