The Turkish beverage company, the Anadolu Group, engages through its 80 companies and 66 production facilities in 19 countries. The Group produces Turkey’s top beer brand, Efes, and is the country’s leading Coca-Cola Beverages distributor. The company was founded in 1940 by Kamil Yazıcı and İzzet Özilhan.
Özilhan owned a small grocery store in Istanbul. However, after partnering with Yazıcı, the team grew the business and expanded into other sectors, such as motorcycles, scooters and engines. The first Anadolu Efes brewery opened in 1969. The company began producing Isuzu trucks and distributing Lada automobiles in the 80s. Anadolu started its Coca-Cola distribution in Southern Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan in 1993. The company entered the finance and banking sector in 1996 and expanded its beer operations internationally in 1997. The company increased its presence in the automotive and beverage sectors throughout the 2000s, eventually entering healthcare and energy in 2008. In 2012, Anadolu partnered with SABMiller, the world’s second-largest beer producer at the time, to operate four of its breweries in Russia and Ukraine. The Group gained control of the retailer, Migros, in 2015.
