Adolph Würth founded the company in 1945 in Künzelsau, Germany. He had a vision to bring quality construction and industrial tools and fastening materials to the German market. Tragically, the elder Würth passed away in 1954 at the age of 45. His 19-year-old son Reinhard immediately took charge of the company and carried on in his father’s stead as CEO, with the support of his mother.
Less than a decade later, the young Würth expanded internationally, opening the first subsidiary abroad in Würth Netherland B.V. Reinhard Würth quickly expanded the company to other regions and took a keen interest in art, founding the Würth collection in 1972, which contains over 17,000 pieces today.
On the cusp of celebrating their 50th anniversary in 1995, Reinhard Würth retired from operational management and moved to the advisory board of the company. After retiring, he taught for several years in economics at the University of Karlsruhe. In 2006, Bettina Würth succeeded her father as head of the advisory board. Tragically, her grandmother, one of the driving forces behind the company’s foundation, passed away. Today, the Würth family continues to reinforce Reinhard’s motto “satisfying our customers is not enough – we want to inspire them!”
