Takenaka is an international construction and engineering firm and is one of the oldest of its kind in the world. As such, Takenaka has been at the forefront of its trade for centuries. They gained notoriety as court architects for the Nobunaga clan during their rule, and they constructed several castles and shrines.
Gradually, they diversified their projects in both scale and materials. Shortly before they relocated headquarters to Osaka in 1923, the company built the first reinforced concrete building in Japan for the famous department store chain, Takashimaya.
Takenaka was awarded the contract for the construction of the Tokyo Tower, once the tallest tower in the world. To this day, Tokyo Tower remains one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Takenaka has continued their excellence in engineering and constructing landmarks and is responsible for the majority of Japan’s dome stadiums.
As one of Japan’s preeminent construction firms, they are looking to diversify their product once again. Their mission, which is ambitiously set for 2025, is to create not only sustainable buildings but also sustainable urban districts that will influence people’s way of life.
