Rethmann is a German conglomerate which oversees three separate and independent divisions. Headquartered in Selm, Germany, Rethmann currently ranks 12th among the top 500 German family-owned businesses, with 2018 revenue coming in at $17.16 billion. Rethmann employs approximately 70,000 people through its combined operations. The organisation’s three independent divisions are the Remondis Group, the Rhenus Group and the Saria Group. The Remondis Group holds the claim to fame of being the world’s largest private water and environmental services companies. The Rhenus Group is a leading logistics supplier in Europe. Their operations involve contract logistics, freight logistics, port logistics and public transport. They specialise in areas such as water supply and treatment through the extraction of raw materials to recycling services and developing alternative energy sources. The Saria Group is involved in the agriculture and food industry producing food for both humans and animals. The company’s roots trace back to its founding in 1934 when Josef Rethmann took over a rail freight forwarding company and a haulage company in Selm, where the company’s headquarters remain today. The emerging business received a city-wide tender in 1959, which led to the formation of the Remondis Group.
