Randstad NV is a multinational human resource and consulting firm headquartered in the Netherlands. Founded in 1960 on the belief that the labour market could be improved, its co-founder Frits Goldschmeding’s vision has turned the brand into a global leader in the HR services industry. Originally a student of economics at the VU University of Amsterdam, he turned his thesis on temporary employment into a company. Mainly providing personnel to banks, insurance firms and the health care sector, by 1965, the company had already spread internationally, opening a branch in Brussels, followed by London in 1967, Dusseldorf in 1968 and then Paris in 1973. By virtue of several acquisitions and mergers through the 80s and 90s, it now operates across five continents in 39 different countries. In 2010, the company celebrated 50 years in business with a global party for nearly 30,000 employees. Goldschmeding retired as CEO in 1998 and, since then, the growth has continued, albeit under changing leadership. In 2017, revenue from the Randstad Group, which still operates under the same logo as it did in 1963, was €23.3 billion.
