Controlling family of the Latin American industrial conglomerate, Votorantim Group. Headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, the company was founded in 1918 by the engineer, Jose Ermírio de Moraes.
Moraes started the family’s business empire with a textile business, which he then built into one of the world’s largest building materials companies. Today, the family’s Group acts as an investment holding company with diversified interests that include juice, energy, paper and cement. Moraes’ son, Antonio Ermírio de Moraes, served as Chairman of the Group until his death in 2014. At the time, his personal net worth was estimated at $3.9 billion.
Ermírio Pereira de Moraes and his sister, Maria Helena Moraes Scripilliti, inherited the business from their father. Maria’s son, Clovis Ermírio de Moraes Scripilliti, serves as Vice-Chairman of the company’s Board. Mario Moraes, the grandson of the founder, is a professional race car driver.
