JD.com is a Chinese e-commerce company based in Beijng, China, with an estimated market value of $43 billion. In 2018, its global revenue was $67.2 billion, placing it third on the list of the world’s largest Internet companies. Otherwise knows as Jingdong in China and formerly called 360buy (it spent $5 million to buy its current domain name in 2013), it was founded in 1998 by Liu Qiangdong as an electronics shop that moved its inventory completely online in 2004. Partly owned by Chinese investment firm Tencent, JD.com is reportedly the world’s leading company in AI drone deliver technology, with the largest drone delivery system and capability in the world. In 2018, Google invested $550 million in the company in what it called “a strategic partnership”, clearly aimed at its largest competitor, Amazon. As of early 2018, the company had a reported 301.8 million active users.
