Golden Agri-Resources, Ltd. (GAR) is an investment holding company with interests in palm oil and palm-based oleochemical products. Headquartered in Singapore, GAR was founded in 1996 by Eka Tjipta Widjaja and is one of the largest palm oil plantation companies in the world.
Initially established as the holding company for the Widjaja family’s agribusinesses, including its Indonesian subsidiary, PT SMART, the company began securing a variety of assets, such as seedlings, refining mills and marketing resources, to become a fully vertically-integrated palm oil supplier. The company was listed on the Singapore Exchange in 1999.
GAR, along with other suppliers, helped make Indonesia the world’s leading exporter of crude palm oil by 2009. GAR’s 2011 guidelines for sustainable palm oil production was hailed as a new industry standard by environmental groups.
Headed by Franky Oesman Widjaja, GAR generates an annual sales of over $7 billion.
