Described as a “tech magnate,” Patrick Drahi and his family own 60 per cent of Altice NV stock, the publicly traded multinational multimedia telecom he founded in 2001. Although he maintains a relatively low profile, Forbes estimates his own fortune to be worth $9.1 billion, and he is known to have multiple citizenships in France, Israel and Portugal. After being born in Casablanca, Morocco, to two maths teachers, he moved to Montpellier in France at the age of 15. He married his wife Lina in the late 80s after proposing to her one hour after meeting at a college party; together, they have created the Patrick and Lina Drahi Foundation, through which they funnel various philanthropic interests, mainly in science and technology, the arts and a number of social projects. They have four children. Known for his various acquisitions in France, on June 17, 2019 Business Insider reported on his $3.7 billion private purchase of auction house Sotheby’s through his BidFair USA entity.
